I have an Suzuki Intruder 1500 and I want to change the stock grips out with some custom ones. Any tips on how to remove the stock ones out and replace with new ones. And yes I'm not very mechanicly inclined.

Yea, thats a fun job...Cut the old ones off with razor blade if they are the rubber type, otherwise use compressed air with a small nozzle tip to blow air inside between handlebar and grip and they slide right off. Hairspray is a new one for me, I use black spray paint or grip glue to put the new ones on. It usually takes some muscle to get them on; careful not to knock the bike over when pushing them on.

NOTE
If you have decided not to install the new grips or you have completed the installation and need more to do repeat steps 4 and 6 as desired.

1) Cut off the old grips with razor and clean the grip area.

2) Use grip glue and cover the grip area

3) Slid the grip on, the glue will work as a lubricant to get it on the handelbars.

4) Drink beer and celebrate

5) Replace other grip

6) Drink beer and celebrate

No Problem. You need compress air to blow into the inside of the grips. Better if there are 2 of you. But while blowing into the inside of the grip also pull and twist the grip should slip right off. Heat will also help this so it is better if the grips are not cold.

if your not saving the old ones cut them off. when installing the new ones make sure NOT to use any kind off lube. what ive used in the past is hairspray if needed. i can usually get them on with out anything, just make sure if theres a design on them to have it facing the way you want it before pushing them on

get yourself an owners manual, they give pretty good detail on how to do it and many other things step by step. i wasnt mechanically inclined until i started studying my book for my dirtbike. now i am working on changing over my 250 to a 300

cut the old ones off...........

soak the new ones in hot water...softens them up makes it easier to slip them on

slide the new ones on..( make sure there aligned the way you want them) there not easy to slide around if you dont get them straight...
