Help! I am forced with a VERY HARD DESISION. I am in 6th grade and am currently in orchestra (chorus is NOT an option for sixth grade, its either orchestra, band, or studyhall) My orchestra teacher just passed out a form for us to fill out on what we want to do next year. Here are the choices:

A. Orchestra
B. Band
C. Chorus
D. Orchestra & Chorus
E. Band & Chorus
F. Studyhall

Here's the thing I want to do chorus and orchestra but here's the con side. We have to split our time in the week between the two. Here's an example:

Week 24:
Mon. Tues. Wed. Thurs. Fri.
Orch. Chorus Orch Chorus Orch
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

On the days we have orchestra we miss chorus and vice versa. The kink is that i won't be as good as the full-time orchestra people or chorus people. I will miss some of class too. I really don't know what to do. If I pick chorus, (cont)

I would chose Orchestra, you can continue this later at the University Level and it will give you a chance to showcase your talent on the Viola. Good Luck.

I'd pick orchestra. There's so much more you can do with that. Perhaps you can work in the background for the school play or join an outside acting group for that aspect. Orchestra will take you much further. Good luck.

I have the exact same problem. I'm in 11th grade and we do the exact same thing. If you choose both, you need to practice more on you own time. You will not suffer GREATLY, and if a certain practice has more significance, you can always ask to be there an extra day, they'll understand. Hope that helps...

Do what makes you happy....but I wouldn't worry about being as good as the full time people...you can (and should) practice on your own to make up for a lot of it.

If you want both, then do both! Believe it or not, being in one will help you in the other.

Remove all thoughts from your mind. What would you like to do. Just because you don't practise doesn't mean you'll forget how to play your instrument, and you can do that at home.

I think you should do both for the meantime. If you find that you aren't enjoying one as much as the other, maybe you can change your arrangements to study just one of these.
