I hate calling in sick, but when I'm feeling bad enough to call in (rarely), I think they don't really believe me completely (I think they have doubts): but maybe they have doubts because they know THEY aren't always "sick" when they call in sick. What do you think?

Just be straight-forward and open with them. Don't torture yourself by thinking they have doubts as to whether you are really sick.

You know you are honest and that's all that matters. Your honesty will be obvious to others and no one will doubt you.

Good luck.

I had to take a sick day off last week - but I wasnt sick.
However both my spouse and my son were sick.
I was a nurse for the day.
I still felt guilty about taking a day off, but I had no choice.

Sick days are there to be used....who cares what they think? If it's part of the contract, then use them when you think you need to. Being sick can also include a "mental health" day. You don't have to be coughing or vomiting to be sick.

I think you used the word "sick" too many times in that question.

My boss knows that if I am not at work something is wrong, and that if I say I am sick,, I was about to die.
