***IT ALL DEPENDS ON WHO THE TELEMARKETER IS. IF IT'S SOMEONE THAT BUGS THE HECK OUT OF ME, I WILL JUST HANG UP, BUT IF IT'S SOMEONE THAT DOESN'T PESTER ME, THEN I WILL LISTEN TO THEIR DIALOG AND THEN DECLINE THE OFFER.***

Please don't hate me! I used to be a telemarketer back in the late 80's for Time/Life.
If you hang up on a telemarketer or are very rude, I gurantee you will recieve more calls. That's their way ( I never did it, I swear!) of getting back at you for being mean when they are just trying to do their job.
Usually telemarketers call at a certain hour and will continue to try and catch you at that same time. The best thing to do is ..... Lie!!!!
Tell them you are on welfare or a fixed income, you will stop getting calls from that company.
Another thing to do is if you have children, let them answer the phone at the time the telemarketer calls. It is against the law for them to talk to children. They can't even ask your child if mommy or daddy is at home because of some law ( can't remember the name of it). Instruct your child to say call back later or just let the child babble to them. They'll hang up.
You can also ask to speak to a supervisor and request that you and your family not be disturbed at that time. (They usually try to catch you around dinner) The supervisor may ask for an alternate time, tell them to try an hour when you know you won't be at home.
And the last and one of the most effective ways to get them to stop calling is to tell them that you do NOT conduct business over the telephone. Tell them that if what they have to say to you is important to put it in writing and mail it to you. Do not give them your address. Let them hang up and then realize they have no way of getting you their information.
I apoligize to the people of Florida, Kentucky and Louisiana because back when I was the one doing those horrible calls those were my designated states.

If they are calling you and you don't want to talk to them, you should just hang up. While I am sure the people are nice, they shouldn't be calling you in the first place if you didn't request it. Hang up on them quickly. If someone I don't recognize call me, I ask "Who is this?" If they start giving me some B/S, I just say sorry and hang up, without listening to any more of their junk. They will talk your head off if you let them, just hang up and save both of you some time.

If a real professional calls thank them for their time but you have no interest. A good one will say no thank you for your time and go on to the next call.
If you have to say no again do so and hang up.

1. If they want to loan you money, tell them you just filed for bankruptcy and you could sure use some money. Ask, "How long can I keep it? Do I have to ever pay it back, or is it like the other money I borrowed before my bankruptcy?"
2. If they start out with, "How are you today?" say, "Why do you want to know?" Or you can say, "I'm so glad you asked, because no one
seems to care these days and I have all these problems, my sciatica is acting up, my eyelashes are sore, my dog just died...." When they try to get back to the sales process, just continue on with telling about your problems.
3. If the person says he's Joe Doe from the XYZ Company, ask him to spell his name, then ask him to spell the company name, then ask where it is located. Continue asking personal questions or questions about the company for as long as necessary.
4. This one works better if you are male: Telemarketer: "Hi, my name is Judy and I'm with Canter and Siegel services.... You: "Hang on a second." (few seconds pause) "Okay, (in a really husky voice) what are you wearing?" (*I dont think Sprint will ever call me back!*)
5. Crying out, in well-simulated tones of pleasure and surprise, "Judy!! Is this really you? I can't believe it! Judy, how have you BEEN?" Hopefully, this will give Judy a few brief moments of terror
as she tries to figure out where the heck she could know you from.
6. Say, "No," over and over. Be sure to vary the sound of each no, and keep an even tempo even as they're trying to speak. This is the most
fun if you can keep going until they hang up.
7. If MCI calls trying to get you to sign up with their Family and Friends plan, reply, in as sinister a voice as you can muster, "I don't have any friends...would you be my friend?"
*MY FAVORITE*
8. If they clean rugs: "Can you get blood out, you can? Well, how about goat blood or HUMAN blood - chicken blood too?"
9. Let the person go through their spiel, providing minimal but necessary feedback in the form of an occasional "Uh-huh, really, or, "That's fascinating." Finally, when they ask you to buy, ask them to marry you. They get all flustered, but just tell them you couldn't give your credit card number to someone who's a complete stranger.
10. Tell them you work for the same company they work for. Example:
Telemarketer: "This is Bill from Watertronics."
You: "Watertronics!! Hey I work for them too. Where are you calling from?"
Telemarketer: "Uh, Dallas, Texas." You: "Great, they have a group there too? How's business/the weather? Too bad the company has a
policy against selling to employees! Oh well, see ya."
11. Tell the Telemarketer you are busy and if they will give you their phone number you will call them back. If they say they are not
allowed to give out their number, then ask them for their home number and tell them you will call them at home (this is usually the most
effective method of getting rid of Telemarketers). If the person says,
"Well, I don't really want to get a call at home," say, "Ya! Now you know how I feel!" (smiling, of course...)

I subscribe to a service that blocks calls from telemarketers. It is available at your local telephone company.

usually i will say hold on just one moment please.... then put my two yr old on the phone. ;o) heres another one... if you keep being bothered over and over again.... keep saying you dont understand... then say I can't hear you can you please speak up? ( then when they repeat...) let em finish one sentence..... then .... say i dont get it.... then when they repeat... say huh? Im sorry i cant hear you can you please speak up? ... just keep irritating them in return. If that don't work tell them you you repeatedly asked them to remove your number from their list and they keep calling and now they will be hearing from your attorney.
