Every now and then i get a message saying this and do i want to set a rule to allow it,should i allow it as i'm the only one using the computer and i dont connect to a workplace computer is it someone trying to connect to my computer and see what i've got on it ?

well....depending what you are using, any incoming connections should be stopped unless you have allowed a port for them (peer to peer requests for example)
if you are getting a pop up type of message, this should be from your firewall, for example, when you first install MSN and log on, you will get a message asking if your firewall should allow it, in this case you would click yes and remember this setting, as you know what it is.
as a rule of thumb, if you do not know why a request is being made then do not allow it.....if it needs access again it will ask, then you may have more idea of what it is.
when using a firewall for the first time these messages will pop up all the time until the programmes you want to give access to have all been granted, new progs will ask though.

Yes its someont trying to connect. Have you used VPN?
