You need a boyfriend but yeah, if you have lived abroad in a city say Tokyo or Shanghai or London, you cannot compare.

Still Malaysia has its moments, its cheap right. If you are getting paid in a foreign currency, everything in Malaysia is cheap. Are you living in Kuala Lumpur?. At least that city has some night life, all the other cities are dead...like living in Saudi Arabia where you are too afraid to too anything for fear of getting stoned to death.

You work too hard lady, heading a dept. with stubborn staffs might lead you to stress! I can't believe you are so bored in such a short time. From your Q i think you need to experience the extreme sports in this country. Go and feel the river rafting in Pahang or have an Elephant ride in the river at Kuala Gandah, Lanchang. If you feel you're bored of city life why not live with the primitive people for few days..
If that's not enough to thrill you, try the cave adventure, diving or mount climbing.

Hm, agree with Anderson. Well, other than take a vacation, you can also enjoy the night life. Where are you exactly? In KL you could find all sorts of things to do. Make some new friends so that you won't be so lonely, and plan some night outs together. Travel to various good destinations and have a nice vacation.

If you're intp wild life and greenery, you can have a visit to the National Park and plan your escapade. There's plenty of beaches and waterfalls in Malaysia. Visit Sabah and Sarawak for a new perspective and see the interesting customs there..

Good luck!

Sad to hear that you have run out of fun after only a mere 7 months in Malaysia...

I don't know about you but most expatrates will normally hang around for night life..

I would suggest you pick up a copy of the tourism map of Malaysia, look at the different places they recommend. Find out about the place and make a trip there...

Frankly, I am already 39 years old but I am still looking into map to go to every corner of Malaysia to have a 'feel'.

Good luck...

One of the ways to get to know the foreign country better is to learn local language - in your case - Malay. It's a fun, studying it will kill your boredom and you will get to know many people! It's not very difficult language to learn. You could find some Malay classes for adults or ask someone to spend some time with you. Have fun!

working overseas in stranger cultures may not be for you. You most likely would have to change your idea of "fun' as the local people are unliklely to chage theirs. Plan for a vacation away to another country more like your own or plan to leave as soon as feasible. Part of the job is the downside of being out of yr element and they are paying extra for the employees to tolerate this.
best of luck

Take the overnight train to singapore for a few days. You could also go to Bali for a weekend. There is a ton to do near KL, explore!
