I believe that Anakin Skywalker was the hero...He had to see the dark side and become Darth Vadar in order to fullfill the destiny...Luke was only a predestined catalyst in Anakin fulfilling it..All Anakin ever wanted was to be a top Jedi and have a family at the same time..He was denied that and did not understand why.
He was the only one powerful to destroy both sides...

Vader/Anakin. He left a major mark on BOTH sides of the conflict. Granted, he exterminated the Jedi, but he also destroyed the Sith (being the Emperor). Excluding the continuity of the Expanded Universe, in a way, Vader/Anakin DID bring balance to the force, just as he was prophesied to do by neutralizing both Jedi and Sith.
From a narrative perspective, it just gives the saga a lot more depth if you look at it from the vantage point the prequel trilogy (clumsily) offers. It's a realistic follow up to the standard Hero's Journey: The basic formula winds down to "Kill the baddie, crown the kid", but someday that fresh-faced child-king who was powerful enough to kill a seemingly unsurmountable baddie...but what after that? If idle hands are the devil's play thing, certainly idle powers make his Disney World.
And before you know it, white turns a little gray, then a little more gray... until the dawn of 'A New Hope'.
Getting back on topic, let's not forget the whole "redemption" theme that tragic characters have a way of lending themselves to.
Personally, I DON'T think Lucas had all this planned in the beginning--both trilogies have WAY too many parallels for that to be feasible-- but I still salute how he managed not only to make one of the most endeared villains of movie (and perhaps even storytelling history) history in one trilogy, and then give him enough depth in another to create a whole new perspective of the character when looked upon in terms of the complete story. That is why Vader-kin owns Star Wars. End of Story.

specific temporarily Anakin Skywalker (Darth Vader) marries Padme and that they've twins (Luke/Leia) who Obi Wan Kenobi has to conceal from Darth to maintain them risk-free. Obi Wan initially thinks that Anakin is the chosen one which will deliver stability to the stress yet Anakin is became to the darkish edge by using the Evil Emperor and could become Darth Vader. Luke manages to teach him back with help from Princess Leia, Han Solo and so on... the action pictures weren't made so as - Episodes 4-6 have been made first (movie star Wars, The Empire strikes back, The return of the Jedi) then episodes a million-3 have been released extra at present (The Phantom possibility, attack of the Clones, Revenge of the Sith)

Luke Skywalker. The title "A New Hope" refers to Luke because all hope seems lost after "Revenge of the Sith." If it weren't for him, Vader would still be alive (and evil). Luke was the one who brought Vader back from the Dark Side. That's all there is to it. Just because Vader was redeemed at the end and killed the Emperor doesn't make him a hero. It was all because of Luke. It was Anakin's destiny since he was born to become a Sith Lord. He was never meant to bring balance to the Force.
Darth Plagueis not only had the ability to control the midi-chlorians and stop death, but to also create life. It is speculated that this method was taught to Plagueis' apprentice, Darth Sidious. More speculation involves this method and the birth of Anakin Skywalker, since there was no father. This had been the plan since day one for Anakin's destiny of becoming a Sith lord.

Anakin was the chosen one and he brought balance to the force. For one thing George Lucas sais that in every interview of him (relating to star wars) that I hve seen. Also anakin killed palpatine and returned to the light side himself, so he destroyed the sith (they would rise again in the books but that is another matter). It could be argued that Luke brought vader back to the light side, but it ws ultamitly Vaders doing not lukes. He also "balanced" the force by killing so many jedi, consider the number of jedi as compared to sith in epiosdes 1-3 (that might not make him a "hero" in your opinion, but it did help balance the force fufilling the proficy of the chosen one. Hope that answerd your question and may the force be with you.

In the movies, Anakin Skywalker is the hero. He, from the beginning, was the chosen one. It was he that was suppose to destroy Darth Sidius, which he did at the end. However, luke is the ACTUAL hero. In the book series, you will see that the Emperor cloned himself. There were 1000's of him. So, at the end of the day, it was Luke Skywalker, and Anakin Solo(Han and Leia's child) that destroyed the place on Genosha where the Emperors clones were kept. So really, it was he at the end , who was the real hero.

Obi Wan was the only one in all of the movies. At least in spirit. He beat everyone. He's the reason that vader has to wear that suit. He let vader kill him in star wars. So he is still undefeated.
