Left is for abortion, they believe a woman should have a right to choose whether to have a baby or not.

Right is against abortion. They see abortion as killing a baby.

Aside from the whole moral/"baby killing" reason attributed to the right, the conservative objection to a woman's right to abortion takes legal issue with the fact that it was established as falling under an unenumerated constitutional right (flowing from right of privacy, as implied by 14th Amendment Due Process Clause & 9th Amendment), and it's often argued that the Constitution doesn't guarantee privacy as a fundamental right, and that it is for the people/states, not the Fed courts, to determine the issue based on the perceived interests and how they balance against each other

The two sides in the abortion debate are arguing entirely unrelated things.

One side is saying "abortion is bad".

The other is saying "it's not up to the government or the moral majority to decide that. it's up the the individual".

So, the issue is really about WHO gets to make the choice -- the individual or the government.
