Rex Grossman. He is practically the other teams defense since he turns the ball over so much.

That's a tough TOUGH question....
Being a Panther fan my first answer would have to be Julius Peppers...the guys is an absolute defensive machine...
Right with him...Brian Urlacher...words can't explain this guy...Another guy would be the ONLY..thats right I said it...the ONLY shut down corner in the league Champ Bailey...Other CBs are good, but this guy dwarfs them all....and if I had to pick another, I think I would have to go with Troy Polamalu...speed, power, intelligence...all around great safety, probably the best in the league (Taking nothing away from Ed Reed though)
Still, I can't back out on my own team...Julius Peppers has to be the guy I'd pick as the best defensive player...

to bad for Shawn Merriman and Champ Baily, but Jason Taylor was the man this year.In the land of lies and no offense. example:
dolphins / vikings were they failed to produce positive gain in yards(-4 yards) still won 24/20 , Jason Taylor the deciding fact in the win. The only game that offense produced against Detroit! The rest Taylor and company.
yea Brian Urlacher the who let the that same offense score 31 pt' against the bears lol !

I would like to say somebody like Julius peppers, Brian urlacher or John henderson. But as I say stats before anything so I would have to say Ray Lewis. Experience wise and statistic-wise, this season he had 80 tkls, 5 sacks, and 2 interceptions, not the best in the league, but certainly a leader who distributes the plays. He leads the nations best defense and is way underrated, all the while getting to the playoffs and allowing under 17.0 ppg.

Rex Grossman, he helps the other team's defense. All joking aside, I think that would be Champ Bailey.
