Well, its really hard to know which university is good because there are sooo many, esp around the world. I was told once by my careers teacher that the best university is the one that suits you. Its really hard to know which is the best because different people have different tastes and requirements what they want/expect from the uni.

For example, some students likes to go to the top and well known (e.g. Cambridge, Oxford) but the uni maybe just in a small town and some may prefer more of a city university. Of course choosing university is hard esp when your abroad as all the universities say how good they are and stuff.

I would suggest you look at type of course suits your needs and studies and then choose the univerity. Is the uni located in a city or a town? Is it close an airport? Is the student/teacher ratio good? Is everything inside campus? Are staff reachable or not? Are lectures usually just 500 students to 1 lecturer or is it 100 to 1? If you get a chance, the best is to have a look at a few university then make the choice.

There are like 10~30+ different league tables and stuff telling u whats the best for your course, best uni itself and stuff. But none of them really are consistent and is really subjective. You may university A on top list one table but then on another league table its below top 20. I personally think these university league tables are just for referencing. In the end, its the uni that suits you.

Anyway, good luck with it!! Hope you find the right uni for you and dont get too obsess with the BEST one in the league table.

PS I've attached a few websites for you. They're from the UK mainly. Not too sure about the ones in US, Canada or anywhere else.

U.S. News and World Reports publishes a report every year of the nation's best schools. It breaks everything down from "Best Value" schools to "Where students study the most" to "most greek involvement" to "most parties with beer", etc.

Its rankings are what colleges go by when they say that they have the "#1 ___ program" or are the #12 Business school, etc.

Pay attention to a school's retention rate. if it high it means students like the school and the professors are good, if it's low find a different school.
