Every school is different. You should go to the cheer coach and ask whatt the requirements are;
Generally speaking, for your age group, this is what our area requires:
Grade point average of 2.5 or above
We teach 1 cheer, 2 chants and one routine over 3 days with tryouts on the 4th day.
We look for poise, enthusiasm, athletic abilities, willingness to accept critique and able to change. knowledge of cheers and chants. "sameness" with the other girls performing the routine.
2 tumbling techniques (i.e.cartwheel, roundoff, backhand spring)
2 jumps or stretches (i.e. toe touch, herkie, hurdler, heal stretch, arabesque or scorpion)
Go to the tryouts with your hair up off of your face, little or no make-up and no jewelry. let them know that you are there for a competition not a beauty contest.
I know that you will be nervous...been there, done that too many times. Try to do a little relaxation breathing just before you enter. Remember, everyone else is just as nervous as you. Know your routines backwards and forwards. I have seen many good contestants eliminated because they could not start in the middle of the choregraphy or cheer.
SMILE SMILE SMILE and be very vocal...not screechy, just loud!
Good Luck!

You do not necessarily need to know tons of tumbling to become a great cheerleader. I did a front role and made my cheer squad. You have to remember to smile like you've never smiled before. Even if you're more nervous than you've ever been in your entire life!!! Try to seem REALLY happy even if you would rather be swimming in a huge pool filled with Paranas! I'm sure the judges won't expect fantastic flips and stuff. You'll do amazing! Just remember to have spirit! Keep smiling even if you fall trying to do a toe-touch because you tripped over your own feet! (I didn't do that....) :)

Hmmm.... well I'm pretty sure you need to know how to do a round off and cartwheel. If you don't know how to do them you might want to sign up for tumbling classes. If you do, you should learn a round off back handspring, that'll get you extra points and you will more likely make it on the team. For jumps, you should know a toe touch and hurkie. I'm not sure about pikes but you should learn them just in case. REMEMBER TO STRETCH BEFORE YOU ATTEMPT THESE JUMPS!!!! Make sure you smile =], make eye contact, be loud and sharp and make silly faces!

Cart Wheel, Hand stand, Round off. Just say the cheer with as much spirit as you can. If you really wanna impress them do a back walk over. Thats what I did. XD
