That is an awesome computer for someone of any age... let alone a 12 year old. But i would question if its a wise decision to get a 12-year old boy a laptop. I see that one turning into possible disaster, i.e. him dropping it, one of his friends throwing a football into the screen, spilling something. Let's face it kids just aren't as mature as their teenage and more often adult counterparts.

Assuming your son is interested in playing computer games, I would say no for one reason the graphic card, Graphics Media Accelerator 950 is an intergrated generic card made by Intel and not by ATI or NVIDIA and therefore won't have a lot of features needed to fully enjoy todays computer games. Trying to find a laptop with a top notch ATI or NVIDIA card can be expensive, but is very affordable if you choose to buy him a desktop instead. He wants a laptop and not a desktop for a computer?

it depends on his needs
but if he plans on using it alot and using it in the future it would be a good investment
however check around
there are ALOT of better deals than that
look for acer 5102, hp dv9000, hp dv6000
just shop around first
never buy the first one you see
also do you really want a laptop?
for 1/2 the price you can get 2x the power in a desktop
think about that
but especially for it being for a child make sure to BUY A WARRANTY!!!! (at least a 2yr if not a 3yr with accidental damage)

Yes, it is a good computer for your 12 year old son. You should consider getting him a Toshiba, though. They make very good computers. I have a Toshiba Satellite M65-S9092, and I really like it. It has Windows XP, and 1GB of memory.

Umm....how much do you love your son, does he deserve it, will he use it for school, is it affordable? Ask yourself these questions. As of now, he doesn't need it for school. Not saying you shouldn't trust your son, but you should but a computer in which everyone can use it and he doesn't have full access to everything. Do you spoil him? Just kidding, never spoil your kids. That's their way of controlling parents. My friend is that way.

if i was your son id be kissing your feet, but unless its for his birthday or soething id get him to do some stuff first, lawn for a year, dishes, vacuuming, everything, and dont get a parental thing on there, i know its going to "polute his mind" by seeing that stuff but, it isnt, if he goes to public school hes already heard of worse, and if hes not ughly hes probly alrady gotten to first, maybe second. trust me, it only makes your kid think you dont trust him, but if you dont and you dont mind him resenting you for the rest of your life by all eman do so. the computer itself is fine though, good ram, good memory, good processor, dont know about the graphics card cuz i have a desktop and there different but going on how the rest is it isnt bad either

your son will be allowed to grow with this unit, it is a bit advanced but in time your son will make it fly. i have always believed you cannot learn on junk, give him the best if you can afford it. but make sure he doesnt abuse it they have a great insurance against breakage and replacement. good luck, i wish you were my mom.!
