Where to start...
There is some really cool things that volcanoes do in the right area.

A few are that they can create tsunamis
they can create lahras (these are really cool... they are a combination of water and pyroclastic material that become a fast moving river) which people can't run away from.
They can chance the climate of the earth when the ash that is released by an explosive volcano gets lifted into a jet-stream.
It Can have a sideways eruption like the Mt. St. hellen's eruption it the dome of the volcano is stronger than the side of the volcano and this can destroy a larger distance than a vertical eruption.
A volcano can leak lava from fissures that can be relatively far from the peak of the volcano where people don't expect hot lava to come through.
Volcanoes have gases that can kill, in Africa children were playing by their school house (hide and go seek) and a few found this great hiding space in a fissure. the volcano was releasing I think CO2 or CO which killed these children.
Have you ever heard of the lava tubes... Oh these are cool, they are tunnels that are created from the flow of lava where the lava has solidified on the outside and the inside had kept moving, till all the inside was gone and the shell remained.

There is just so many interesting things that a volcano can do.

Destructive Effects Of Volcanoes

Pyroclastic flows are pretty neat, but since they've already been covered... I'll talk about lahars.

Lahars are basically a pyroclastic flow that has picked up a lot of water from the peak of the mountain (usually covered with snow or glaciers). The water mixes with the volcanic ash/rocks and turns the pyroclastic flow into basically very hot and fast moving walls of concrete. Once the lahar stops moving it is no longer fluid - anything that was in its path is now buried and destroyed.

Lahars are very common during volcanic eruptions and are a huge problem for mountain villages in South America and Indonesia. A lahar can easily bury a low lying village in more than 10 meters of debris.

Pyroclastic flows are high-density mixtures of hot, dry rock fragments and hot gases that move away from the vent that erupted them at high speeds. They may result from the explosive eruption of molten or solid rock fragments, or both. They may also result from the nonexplosive eruption of lava when parts of dome or a thick lava flow collapses down a steep slope. Most pyroclastic flows consist of two parts: a basal flow of coarse fragments that moves along the ground, and a turbulent cloud of ash that rises above the basal flow. Ash may fall from this cloud over a wide area downwind from the pyroclastic flow.

A pyroclastic flow will destroy nearly everything in its path. With rock fragments ranging in size from ash to boulders traveling across the ground at speeds typically greater than 80 km per hour, pyroclastic flows knock down, shatter, bury or carry away nearly all objects and structures in their way. The extreme temperatures of rocks and gas inside pyroclastic flows, generally between 200°C and 700°C, can cause combustible material to burn, especially petroleum products, wood, vegetation, and houses.

Poisons the air/water. Blast wave knocks out everything in it's path. Lava starts fires, destroys roads, trees, etc.

Pyroclastic flows of gas, rock, ash and lava. Can flow up to 700 km/h.

Well, first look up pyroclastic flows...then super volcanoes...pretty crazy!

They can ruin circle meetings. But theyre too far
away for them to matter for most who live continental America. It's distracting.

With a capital A.
