True, in a nutshell, Napoleon needed the cash to fund his military ambitions in Europe and his advisors told him the Louisiana territory was mainly "a great desert". While New Orleans was an important port, he knew he could never militarily cover a war in Europe, colonies in the Carribean, and the huge territory.

because it was a set back for him and he was in a war and h needed money for weapons and stuff
