I want to be able to make sites like www.myspace.com and www.kaneva.com etc and I'm wondering what I should major in to learn that. Will I learn what I need to know if I major in Computer Science or Computer Information Systems?

It's not that I want to create a huge website, I just want to know how to do it so I can work for companies like Myspace.

Computer Science (emphasis on Graphic Design and Web Programming)

Web Design, you can actually start now by going and getting some books on HTML. Work up to server side scripts like php, asp, perl, ruby. If you want to make a site like myspace, start working now with a small group of freelancers.

Computer Science will teach you about computer mechanics and programming code (C++, Java, Assembly, VB), unfortunatly not anything about web coding.

Computer Information Systems may touch alittle on html, but most of it will be about running networks and securing servers. (SQL,CITRIX, Thin Clients, Routing, OSI Layers, etc)

I do know that Graphic Design goes into HTML, but not into anything more advanced. Its mostly "front end" of web sites, no back end scripting.

Take a trip to the local book store, Amazon.com to get your hands on html, css, xml, php, cfm, asp, perl, ruby, mysql, postreSQL, etc... Theres also sites that'll teach ya for free.

Those will teach you programming, but you don't need much programming, just HTML. You could learn HTML without getting a degree. If you want to just create a network you can go to ning.com and create a social network there. If you want to create a mega website then you need to have a good idea to get people to come and grow your site, not just programming knowledge. You might actually try a few entrepreurial courses. Hope that helps!
