If you meant to write 3X + 9 = 27, then the answer is X = 6.

However, the way you have it written with a "<" instead of a "=", the answer is X < 6.

In other words 3X + 9 is less than 27 when X is less than 6. Once X equals 6, 3X + 9 is equal to 27, and once X is greater than 6, 3X + 9 becomes greater than 27.

Hope that helps.
