I have just moved back to the town I used to call home when I was a child, and am planning on going to university in september. However, untill then i am afraid i don't have any friends here and it is affecting me a lot! I am feeling kinda lonely and just being with my boyfriend all the time, but I miss female and friends company. I do work at the moment, but everyone is over 40! I am 20. Any ideas anyone? Thanks xx

Go to the gym, do classes, find a local bar with a younger crowd and hang out, get a job in a bar one or two nights a week, your sure to make friends there. Speak to people and dont be so shy. Its good to talk. Stick an add in the local paper "friend wanted" bit sad that though. Tell everyone where your from and perhaps someone might meet up with you.

Does your town have a website with a forum?

I moved to a new town and made friends via chatting on the forums and then eventually meeting up.

A personal ad might sound 'sad' but it would be the quickest way to find girlfriends for a night out etc.

And does your boyfriend have any friends who have girlfriends that might be interested in starting up a friendship?

Good luck and don't give up. I didn't and have made some life long friends.

Just have the happy-go-lucky attitude and don't be so insecure with yourself. Make yourself easy to approach. People get scared of you if you uptight. Loosen up and people will just come up to you with out feeling embarassed. Laughing always helps during awkward moments.

I'd go to meet friends at the picnics, gatherings or something where there's a crowd. I always find someone to talk too. Just ask where they from or what they do. Find something in common with you or something that interests you.

Ok--think about people who may have tried to make friends with you in the past and how you reacted to their approach. Be nice, be funny, be interesting, ask some questions, listen to what they have to say, and try to show interest in it, then tell them a little about yourself. Be approachable and friendly, not cold or shy or aloof. Good luck! Remember--making friends is hard, BEING a friend is harder.
