like cats obviusly like to be pet on there cheeks cuz they rub in to it and dogs like there ears and butt to be scratched cuz they rub into it also but rats dont really show what they like my rats love me they stay on me and sleep on me and even poop in the litter box so its not that they dont like me that they dont show me what they like im not sure how else to explane it but they dont give any signs that they like how im petting them

My rats always liked being scratched behind the ears. Also, once while I was petting one of my rats on her cheeks she got so relaxed that she almost fell asleep - and that was at the vet's!

The link below leads to some information on reading rat body language, so that you can know when your rats are enjoying what you're doing. Mine would generally start bruxing (grinding their teeth) when they seemed to really be enjoying something.

Rats adore scritches behind the ears. They like head to rump cupped-hand pats, and some rats like to be tickled.

Rubbing the rump alone doesn't seem in favor of rats because both females in heat and dominent males take this as mounting.
