In rebuttel to groovies answer. You were not around during the beginning of the AIDS epidemic.Gay males thier brothers families and friends stood up as a united front. The incidence rate among gay males dropped.I have been around long enough to see the changes that have occuried. The prevalence among gay males is about 25%.The incident rate has skyrocked. The effects in the African American Community have become critical.Around the mid 70's conservitive values caused gay males to engage to anal sex an analog of heterosexual vaginal sex.By 1981 doctors noticed that some gay males infected with hepatitis had symtoms of something else thier immune systems had become weakend and that they died. When medicines became available gay males had developed a sense of false security Now they think medicine is going to solve thier problems. This is avoidance of personal responsibility.Condoms are reinforcing behavior that helps maintain the spread of HIV because the structure of behavior has not change

Why do gay males engage in anal sex? Simply because anal sex feels good. Why do gay males have unprotected anal sex? I have no idea...stupidity, misplaced trust in their partners, etc. But HIV can be found in many bodily fluids so unprotected sex is not the only way to get the virus.
BTW, I don't believe your statistics and I do not understand your point about the gay community so I will ignore the rest of your ranting.

HIV can be acquired not only through anal sex. It can be acquired sexually (anal, oral, vaginal), infected syringes or injections, blood transfusion, mother to baby, etc.
The chances of getting it based on what I have listed above are all the same.
The best thing to do is practice safe sex. No condee, no entry! If they insist not using any protection, then take the risk of getting HIV!!!

You can warn people about the dangers of anal sex, but that doesn't mean they will stop having anal sex. I suppose gays can make the argument that there's nothing wrong with anal sex as long as they wear condoms, but they can't really explain why condoms often break during anal sex. I don't care if they do have anal sex, but I don't want them to blame other people for their mistakes. I don't want them to be sitting in hospitals with AIDS and blaming people for not caring about them. Those other people tried to warn them about the dangers of anal sex, but they didn't listen.

i really dont know... I think I'd be in pure panic mode for months after an encounter if I'd not been safe... and I'd get tested every moth for a year.. it's just my nature... I really think drug/ alcohol abuse plays a big part in this.... I can't imagine putting yourself in that situation otherwise, it's so easy to put a condom on.. of course, there are the breaks/ slippage issues, but that's so rare...

Maybe you are right maybe there is no community.
Maybe we should stop grouping people together and calling them a community based on things such as sexual orientation and skin color or socioeconomic status.
The problem is unprotected sex.
The problem is about those sectors of the population that engage in unprotected sex without getting tested.

Gay couples can be checked out at a doctor's office to find out if they are "clean". If so, they can engage in sex (as long as they don't cheat on one another) and not worry about getting AIDS.

Anal sex isn't responsible for the spread of HIV in gay men; unsafe, unprotected sex IS.
Why are gay men still engaging in unprotected sex? That's the million dollar question, and one I want answered or to never have to ask again.
Condoms, people. Stay alive so that you can find the man of your dreams or have the greatest sex in the world with tons of guys, but stay alive and healthy, and help others to do so, too.
