Unmanned space craft have landed on mars and remote controlled cars have driven for miles taking pictures. Man will go in about 20 years.

Both the russians and americans have landed a number of spacecraft on Mars. In addition, we have an imaging satellite orbitting Mars, making a survey for future missions. That satellite recently discovered a large south polar ice mass--an excellent resource.
No human beings have ever attempted to travel to Mars yet. The moon trip took a little over a week. Travel time to Mars (just one way) would be at least several months--I think about six for a maximum fuel conserving transfer.

The nearest we have tried is with robots, and now there is a debate going on about if we should even land people there at all, because of the dangers and costs of space exploration.
We have the technology now, but a lot of scientists think that the extrems of space wouldn't be worth a trip to Mars for colonising the planet, because any number of things can go wrong, and debates are raging on both sides that could ultimately shut down our manned space exploration limiting our species to just the Earth.

Mars' orbit around the sun is about 1.5 times the earths orbit. That means the distance between the earth and mars could range from 46 million miles to 233 million miles. That would take too long for a human to survive in the space ships we use now.

Not with people on with unmanned rovers.
It takes about 4 months minimum to get to Mars not an easy trip for a person in something the size of your bed room.
Round trip would be 4-9 months. Can you live in your bedroom for that long with say, 3 friends, without being able to leave that area. Can you live on canned food and TV dinners for 9 months. No Dominos. No Burger King.

Hi. Roboticly yes. But the planet with the MOST failed attempts is Mars. Don't know why. (Hope the 'Conspiracy folks' don't get a hold of this one!)

no , because of plain logic, there would not be enough food to last that long traveling to mars and you'd be VERY bored being in that ship for a while

we have never sent people
i think you would know if people have been sent there
we have sent robots there such as orbiter, fly bys and land rovers
we have trouble sending people
because
it is a year away
[it takes a while to get radio transmissions]
there is practically no atomosphere on mars
there should be an expedition there soon
