Quit caffeine, don't eat too late, don't drink any liquids too late, turn off TV/music/computer at least an hour before.

Don't use your bed for work activities, give yourself at least a good half-hour to wind down, turn down the lights, get comfortable, settle into bed.

Don't think about work or school or stressful stuff either. Good luck!

Well, the average human goes to sleep in 14 minutes. I would suggest drinking some chamomile tea, stop eating two hours before you go to bed, get in the most comfortable p-j's that you have, take a nice hot long shower, open your windows (if it's warm), don't think about trying to sleep (trust me on this!!!), or say your prayres.

ok the natural pill was good but the conair sound machine also works (available at target) and lavendar also helps you go to sleep and no caffine or energy drinks 45- 60 min before bed and don't do anything that will make you the least bit hyper if you like to read a book everyday read it before bed or do something calming

find something that relaxes you like taking a shower, music, a movie, release stress in other ways, comfort food, basically anything that relaxes you.

I find diffrent things helpfull at diffrent times like one night i will put a movie on the next some music, and still other nights i like it silent and very dark. the older you get the more you learn what works for you.

oh yeah you can also work out a couples before bed. do something that makes you tired.

Do not do anything stimulating right before you go to sleep like watch television or use the computer it stimulates the mind. Drink a warm glass of milk. Do not eat anything sugary very late or caffienated after lunch and especially not right before you go to sleep. Avoid the news it winds me up so I cannot sleep well. Read a nice relaxing book. My college textbooks always make me fall asleep especially when I was learning Spanish so I can pull out a learn Spanish book and I will drop off right away. Since I began taking all this advice I fall asleep much faster. Be sure to exercise and find things to make you tired physically during the day. Take a warm bath or shower before retiring to bed this helps me greatly. Eat good during the day I slept like a log last night because I ate good yesterday and also ate black beans which are very good for your health in moderation on a regular basis. I would have probably fell asleep sooner if I had not over the moderation level on black beans because I love them and my stomach got a little bit of air in it but once gone I was sound asleep so eat them earlier in the day if you can tolerate them and like them.
Avoid greasy foods also and gassy foods later on during the day because the air and grease can affect your sleep quality such that it can increase bad dreams and unrest.
Camomile tea and sleep pills make me feel like I have a hangover when I wake up but work well for other people. Avoid many teas because they have caffiene right before bed. I cannot count sheep upwards because it causes tension for me for some reason but I can count back from a hundred or was it a thousand I think I do a hundred because it is less stressful than bigger numbers and usually before I reach zero I am usually asleep. I cannot remember once reaching zero much less many other numbers. It worked for me. And that all time if I say I want to go to sleep I get tense and cannot. But If I say what I use to say as a child before Christmas I am not going to fall asleep it will make me fall asleep if I keep repeating it. I have no idea why exactly this works for me.
I had one of those clocks that made the sound of the sea to drown out everything which put me to sleep fast but I slept so deeply I kept hitting the snooze until I busted the clock knocking it over. Put it in a good place. It shuts off after awhile and I know I was asleep when it shut off but you can find tapes etc. with the sound of the sea it relaxed me enough I could sleep well. I had an apartment near the parking lot once because they gave me 15 dollars off on rent but they had nothing else available at that time. I realized later it was because parking cars coming in late at night were right at my window level and the street lights were outside the window along with the dump truck which came sometimes at 4 am. Such that I covered the windows with aluminum to keep out light, and wore ear plugs for awhile. I will remember when they say 15 dollars off it is not a deal anytime..
L tyrosine works it helped me alot during a divorce, Valerian and Hops works but it can cause a little bit of dry intestinal tract if used very long, and melatonin helped me but makes me feel like I have a hang over if I take it awhile and eventually does not work very good for me either.
