I really regret quiting a Dungeons and Dragons group I never got really a chance to play it as a kid. I loved it! I had so much fun. I only played a couple games, but I had such a good time. I went to a couple gaming conventions and loved role-playing!
I had played many online computer games, but this was so much better then any computer game could give me. I played DnD online, Everquest, World of Warcraft, Ultima Online, Star War Galaxies, and Neverwinter Nights. The only game that came close to the experience was Neverwinter Nights. At 27 I really shouldn't be playing these games I should grow up.
I quit after a few meetings because well to be frank I am 27 and I was playing with kids in the age range of 12-16 . I just did not feel comfortable around kids, and I felt immature and like I wasn't acting my age. Besides I thought people might question my motives playing with young kids.
I regret giving up so early with the group, If only I was 14 again ...

I also played DnD as a kid and I really got into Neverwinter Nights, not so much into NwN2. I'm 25 and I still like to play. My 27 yr old brothers helps coordinate gaming here in East Dallas, they play every Sat at a comic book store. Maybe you should look for another gameing group if playing with 12 yr old bothers you [I know it would bother me too]. If you can't find an adult game, maybe you should start one. Post online like at Craigslist to see if anyone else in the area is interested. You can also call local comic or sci fi type stores to see if a group meets there. There's also cons if nothing else pans out. You can travel to conventions that have gaming areas or rooms and play. Chances are the other players won't all be young and you can play, even if not on a regular basis. I work Sat so I can't game with my bro's group, but I am looking forward to gaming at AggieCon this weekend.
Have fun and good luck!!!

why give it up if you enjoy the game. yes find a group of adults that play, though you may feel like you are still with some of the 12-16 year olds. though i wrote on a post by e-mail game and we swore the one person was much older, turned out he was 16.
i also played star wars, everquest 2(still do) and NWN but there is a lacking of use of the imagination and the camaraderie. it is such a pain in the *** to type a conversation. i am part of a small group that gets together on fris....it has changed a few times but the core group is there still after 7-8 years. granted there was a lot of times things broke up but we kept in touch and pulled it back together to continue the gaming. there are also the post by e-mail games...still not as much camaraderie but there is the use of imagination
check the yahoo groups and look for a d&d style game or some other genre of game from sci-fi to horror we gamers are there. good luck and so what if it is "not acting your age" it is harmless fun. sorta like reading a book or going toa movie, escaping reality for a short time. the trick is just don't get lost there.

I hear you totally. A friend of mine asked me to come campaign with him and a large group of other people. I've played D&D off and on since I was about fourteen, and now that I'm about to be twenty-eight, I was excited to roll some dice again. It's been about two years since I've done so! It turned out that aside from my twenty-four year old friend, everyone else was a teenager still in high school. The gaming session was weak, and the kids barely focused on the game. Instead, they became distracted so easily, I was getting terribly frustrated. I think it's okay to have a side conversation, but I found myself wanting to do nothing else but leave. I couldn't, however, as I couldn't think of a decent excuse to leave, and the kids whined whenever I started to make noise about leaving. Needless to say, I didn't go back. When I show up at a D&D session, dice in tow, I want to play, damn it! I don't give a damn how some mouthy punk not even present talked back to some Spanish teacher!
Blah.

I never played D & D when I was a kid either.
its ok, you can do it now no matter what, there is lots of adults who play world of warcraft, etc...
my dad plays world of warcraft and he's 45.
I'm sure you could find an online group of adults interested in D&D just search for a forum

i'm 23 and i'd love to join a D&D group
but the game is close to unheard of in my city in Australia
i wouldn't mind playing against 12yr olds, i used to work in a internet cafe that was littered with them, so i got used to their style of playing games
