If I touch the starter solenoid with a screwdriver, the bike will start. can i buy a push button from autozone or kragen and connect to what? to make it start. do i need to add a fuse to make it work.

generally you can just clean the contacts on the switch

On my Kawasaki I have had a similar problem but it was a sticky contact in my ignition switch. You may want to check that first. IF you can disassemble the starter switch check the contacts or if you can go to Radio Shack get some contact cleaner and spray that into the switch to see if it helps.
IF you have a continuity tester check out the switch to see if the contacts close when you press the button.

Why would you want to cobb up 2005 motorcycle, just figuere out the problem. Its probably just your clutch lever switch or something else simple.

Clean the contacts....could be ignition (key) switch or clutch switch (lever)

push button switch between solenoid & earth.....should work..
