There was no Civil Rights legislation during this time period, and legal segregation was the norm all over the country.

In the south, lynchings and other hate crimes were still practiced, especialy in rural areas.

In the labor force, they were usualy the last to be hired and the first to be fired.

African Americans were gaining liberties by leaps and bounds before and during the great depression time period. Marcus Garvey was an essential leader for their rights and urged African Americans to show the world that they can work just as good as anyone else. He even had his followers in military uniforms. you can see everything he did at my source.

my mom grow to be born in 1933, she lived and worked on a farm. the white ppl taken care of them like shyt. they could no longer be out on the city previous darkish or they could be overwhelmed or killed. they have been a undesirable, yet proud ppl. finally my grandparents (an African woman & Seminole Indian guy) stored up sufficient funds to purchase some land, build a house, and open slightly food market. the whites burned down their domicile two times, killed their cows and poisoned the chickens. they only picked themselves up and started over. long tale short, it wasn't no picnic for blacks or interior sight individuals.

They were loved and feted by society, treated like celebrities everywhere they went. AA's were considered to be the apogee of human development. Gosh, I'll give anything for the good old days!

In the South, it was the worst. Segregation... Watch the movie Roots, etc. This will give you a general idea of how things really were.

Poorly. It didn't help that everybody was competing fiercely for a job or just a dime or just a meal.

The status quo for whites and blacks at the time was called "segregation" but it was really apartheid.
