My boyfriend just called me from work and said that some girl told him that I should take a warm bath to help break my water. Now he is insisting I take this warm bath. I am thinking my water will break when it wants to. But Im just wondering if that is true and if it will really help my water to break.

(Oh and i am 5 days past my due date and have been having sharp pains as if my cervix might be dialating.)

No, that will not necessarily help your water break. It may relax you, which tends to help bring labor on...but the warm bath itself is not going to make you go into labor. Some things that will help: walking, sexual intercourse. Walking helps lower the baby. Sex is the only PROVEN way to bring about labor, as semen has chemicals which help induce labor. Other women swear by a glass of wine, spicy foods, and castor oil. (these may not all be the healthiest for you during pregnancy but it is your ultimate decision)

Also, your water may not break when it's ready, and you might have to be induced. If I were you, I'd go for a walk and then wait until your boyfriend gets home to have sex (if you feel up to it) so you can avoid induction. Best of luck!

once you're in water, taking a bath or tub you will possibly no longer comprehend correct while your water breaks. yet once you get out you will. it is going to proceed to leak and spill out til the toddler comes. you're able to bleed slightly too, and would experience contractions drawing close. i does no longer problem approximately it. you will comprehend notwithstanding if it happens interior the bathe you would be waiting to tell after. i does no longer pass swimming. it could reason an infection while you're dialating. docs many times dont recommend that. additionally, once you get your membranes stripped do a marvelous type of strolling. Stripping membranes dont constantly artwork. they'd would desire to do it returned at a destiny appt. If the toddler isn't waiting the toddler wont come. yet strolling helps, a marvelous type of strolling. you additionally can attempt raspberry leaf tea. Dont attempt castor oil, it dont constantly artwork and it could make the toddler have a bowel circulation in utero. good success.

water can't go up there unless it's forced, so i'm not seeing how a warm bath can help. note when you try to put a glass under water, there always some air in it. it's the same with the vagina.
sex doesn't work either, tried that with both of my pregnancies. had to be induced both times.

I've taken a warm bath to relax my contractions (Braxton Hicks) so I never heard of it helping your water break. Things I would try to induce labor are:
Use Evening Primerose Oil- http://gentlebirth.org/archives/natinduc.html#Ripening
Take long walks
Have sex
Nipple stimulation

Good luck!!

Never heard of that one and I would have to say no, since I have taken a bath every night since about 22 weeks and I am now 37 weeks. It helps with aches and pains, but it won't cause your water to break.

I tried everything to go into labor w/ my first child and was induced at 42 weeks. Everyone told me to walk, have sex, castor oil and anything in between and nothing worked. When I went into labor w/ my second child my water broke when I was sitting down watching t.v. so the baby will come when it is ready or the docs will induce if you don't go into labor on your own. Good luck and God bless

Sex, spicy foods, and long walks can help induce labor (if you are close to your due date). A hot bath may help so it doesnt hurt to try it after the first 3 suggestions i gave you.

no that wont help but what it will do is help your labor progress faster... i wouldnt suggest a bath though because it could put unwanted strain on other muscles take a warm shower and go for walks... keep in mind that drs can and will break your water sack if you are dialated so far

i dont think it will help! sometimes your more then likely to go into labor (with the contractions) even before your water breaks and they sometimes have to break it for you at the hospital, i wouldnt worry about it, the baby will come when its ready and if not lol and it wants to stay in there then the doc will surely induce you~

No that's not true. I'm sure you will be induced in a few days if you do not go into labor, so it will be over soon.
