'Blog' is short for 'weblog' and refers to an online journal or other outlet for your writing. You can write about politics, your life, your thoughts, your dreams, or anything else that one might keep in a diary.

Some good blog sites are:

http://blog.yahoo.com
http://www.blogger.com <--- my personal favorite
http://www.livejournal.com
http://www.myspace.com

I hope that helps!

This is a blog; my own blog, which I believe is to have about the best and worst of what a blog has to offer.

I'm obsessed with paid blogging; that's when people pay you to post about their products on services on your blog. The money is good when the work is there, it is as good or on par as what a freelancer can expect to make elsewhere. When it isn't as it is now, it sucks.

I used to have a nice blog where I'd take news articles of the day, put my own opinions and advice in them and create some pretty interesting op-ed pieces, if you look at some of my older pieces, like late 04 and 2005, you'll see plenty of that stuff on there.

How blogs are defined, in literary terms, has changed a bit over the years. In the beginning they were very self-indulgent, and if anyone actually read them it was some other jerk that you had a lot in common with. Over the years though, as companies have thrown their hat in the ring and many professional writers have used this genre of webpage to connect with their readers blogs have become more professional in tone, less self-serving, and more and more read like an actual magazine. Many bloggers use paid blogging to bring about some nice part time revenue, although making more than minimum wage in a year is rarely heard of (12k).

A lot of other more experienced, savvy marketers are creating blogs that offer, really nothing actually, in terms of content except a plethora of dummy articles that only serve to move products and services. If you want to see one of these, go to http://Weblogs.com and you'll find more than enough to satiate your desires for the Internet equivalent of pop culture. There are celebrity blogs, where they show you everything from K.C. (of Jodeci) perfoming while high on crack (or so it would seem) to Britany Spears closing down some Gucci store somewhere to go on a 50,000 dollar shopping spree. There are blogs from people who really shouldn't be blogging, that you would think have a rather active social life, to read their blogs. ( I mean if they know all of thse importnat people and get invited to all of these parties, where is the time to blog like the rest of us loosers?)

And so on and so forth. If you're looking for blogs, or good places to tell people about your blog, try http://www.Technorati.com , or http://www.Weblogs.com . If you're looking to blog try http://www.Squarespace.com , http://www.Blogger.com or http://www.Typepad.com . Most of the blogs I've seen on Typepad are rather serious in tone and of nature; some great political blogs on there. Blogger seems to run the gamut; they're a bit more professional in look now, but have a ways to go.

The short answer is that a blog is a website where posts, or journal entries, are displayed in reverse chronological order. Due to the popularity of indexing the material in blogs, you can also search an entire blog for keywords ...
