Tennis player take a look at the figures for the top money earners in the WTA (women's professional league) as of Oct. 8,2006. Serena Williams is being paid $7.5 million a year by Nike for 8 years (she was signed in 2003 for 8 years this contracts total value is $60 million)
#1J.Henin-Hardine $3,204,810 #2 Maria Sharapova $3,101,616,#3 Amelie Mauresmo $2,777,507 #4 Svetlana Kuznetsava $1,768,109 #5 Kim Clijisters $1,122,992.
Put in a another way V.Ruano Pascual earned $403,991 and no professional soccer player in the new league will ever come close to earning that much. Reason endorsements, advertisers, and TV/ticket sale tennis revenue will always be higher. Look the 1999 Women's World Cup had over 90,000 fans solid ratings for the final match and solid TV ratings ,but the WUSA was barley a blip on the sports landscape. Until Women's Soccer can build a bigger audience and have long term popularity this will never change.
Last year Amelie Mauresmo won $1.117 million dollars for winning Wimbledon this years winner gets paid an extra $53,000 extra.

Your opinions on policy: sure, I can see your point. Work = pay, and less work should reflect in the pay you receive. Your opinions on women: sexist, period. Two people playing the same sport, and you believe that on a moment to moment basis, one is working hard and the other is "just grunting" because the latter has a vagina? That makes no sense and says more about your perception of women in sports than the actual sport itself. Who are you to say what any other individual is capable of, vagina or not? Why isn't your issue with the fact that women are being held to a lower standard in the first place? It's unfair and insulting. If there was actual equality in tennis, all of the rules would apply equally, not just the amount of money received for big-time games.

Female soccer players make less than peanuts. They are probably better off working at McDonald.
Tennis players make milions(if they are good) from wins, advertisments, sponsors, books, shows,....etc.
