i agree soooo much. gretzky is always being called the great one and stuff and i respect that. he was an amazing player and all. thats why i think no one would hit him. they knew he had a whole team behind him, ready to kill anyone that would touch him. thing is peopl dont realise they also have a team behind them. for gods sake, some one deck him.
As for crosby, he thinks he's tough. i remember one game, cam ward of the devils hit a penguin. crosby came over, punched ward, then BACKED OFF. seriously, stick up for yourself you babey. and the refs dont call anything on him because the nhl would be pissed if he got bad reputation.
all i have to say is thank you to those few refs and players who do their jobs.

1. Why would anyone not at LEAST respect those guys for the talents they have/had if not "like" them. I was priveleged to have Gretzky play for us (L.A.) for 8 years, so of course I like him. I'm tired of all the "Is Crosby better than Gretzky" type questions, but that's not HIS fault.
2. Who said it was wrong to check those Guys? If you are going to make a statement like that you need to provide some evidence.
3. I know 99% of people here disagree with me, but just because you only get 20 penalty minutes a year and/or have someone else fight your battles for you it does NOT mean you are not a hockey player. Sure Gretzky wouldn't have has as many points without Semenko and McSorley, but Semenko and McSorley wouldn't have Stabnley Cups without Gretzky. It's a TEAM game.
4. Again, if you are going to make off the wall statements like that, you need to provide some evidence. Certainly we get upset, rightfully so, if cheap shots and other clear penalties against them are not called. And YES, I have seen Gretzky "tackled" to the ice without a penalty, multiple times, because "we have to let the players decide it". Sorry, rules are rules.
5. What Hockey player, even the enforcers, WANTS to be hit??? Please. Good ones take the hits and make a play anyway, or as stated above, possess the anticipation to lean away from the hits.

They have taken their fair share of abuse (esp. Crosby). Also, did you ever think that they aren't going to take these open ice hits too much because they are so aware of where they are on the ice?? They always have their head up and know (knew) where everyone on the ice was. They are /were both elusive. They know/knew where other players are going to be before they do. Crosby doesn't mind contact. It is the spears/crosschecks that people don't like with these guys. Hatcher on Crosby last year and Blake and that Hab(Lapierre??) on him this year come to mind. Thus, enter Laroque into the equation.
Very few people know that Crosby can throw down. When he was young (really young), I thought he would be an NHLer some day as a FIGHTER. You look at how good he is now and he can't be breaking a hand in a scrap. Too valuable.
As for Gretz-he was quite a sissy but had that 6th sense and elusiveness nonetheless.

I totally disagree with you. I have never heard anyone say that it's WRONG to check big name players like Crosby, Malkin, and Ovechkin. They get hit all the time. But there is a difference between contact and a physical game and singling someone specific out on the ice...which tends to be the case with Crosby.
Every team in the NHL has a player or two who are their "superstars". Obviously, they are the open targets on the ice...get rid of the best player(s) to even out the chances of winning...
It's not wrong to check these players, but they need to be protected from blatent pinpointing..and I agree with that. And I think that it's easy for people to complain about this topic because they aren't the ones on the ice, taking the hits night after night. Hockey is a contact sport, yes...but the point isn't to hurt people. The goalies are always the most protected on the ice, but what about the other 5 players on the ice? Who protects them?
Everyone needs to quit whining about Crosby. They're all annoyed that he's so good and not the superstar on their favorite team...
Let's Go Pens!!!

I'm not a huge fan of Gretzky but i do like Crosby, but either way ,you still have to give both of them some respect. I mean really when your possibly the best hockey player ever (Gretzky) and supposed to be "The Next Great One" and living up to that, nobody wants them to get injured. But, I do agree with you to the extent that they are hockey players and they should either learn to take the hits that come with the game, or go play some other sport.

you comprehend that is humorous somebody is speaking approximately living interior the final and those gamers are extra effective then those. properly one ingredient being forgotten is that there replaced into extra expertise interior the league back then. there have been much less communities, so the gamers have been extra effective. I admit goaltending has developed, however the gamers developed with it. So relatively attempting to insist Gretzky had some benefit, previous taking part in in a expert league the 300 and sixty 5 days till now transforming into a member of interior the NHL is purely stupid. I mean while human beings talk approximately interior the NHL they are ignoring that Gretzky performed interior the WHL his first 3 hundred and sixty 5 days, so in case you in basic terms flow via his NHL numbers they are actually not as precise as his professional numbers. a minimum of not in case you prefer to evaluate via professional numbers, you won't be able to forget approximately approximately that the WHL did exist and replaced right into a expert league, even although if comparing to RUSSIANS who performed interior the KHL now then it fairly is yet another tale. I consider the theory that Crosby and Ovechkin are basically the present theory of Mario and Wayne, yet I consider you LITY they might't be in comparison. to boot verify out Wayne and Mario's numbers while they performed one yet another, or performed jointly interior the All-famous individual interest. From my view they enjoyed competing in video games against one yet another or enjoyed teaming up. With Crosby and Ovie you in basic terms do not relatively get the comparable ingredient.

No, like Bob mentioned, Gtrezky and Crosby always have their head up and are aware of their surroundings. Have you noticed that the severe hits on players(i.e. Kaberle, Drury) are due to their heads being down? I like how Bob put that skill refering it to a "sixth sense" type thing. That's what makes hockey players stand out and be successful. That is probably why Crosby is getting compared constantly to Gretzky. Now that I am sick of.

Gretzky like the other said he had a six sense he was always 1 or 2 steps ahead of all others he wouldn't even have to look wear to pass the puck he knew Kurri, Anderson or Messier was going to be there, even before they knew it them selves. he has been hit lots of times throughout his career but people seem to forget about it. people like to put down players that are great just like Crosby. all of last year people kept saying what a whiner he was, but the truth is he wasn't whining. a letter by the the Head of the NHL officiating said in a letter that he talk to all ref's that had ref one of Crosby's games has he ever whined about anything, and they all said no. the biggest surprise by all the ref's was that they can't believe that a kid at the age of 18 now 19, was so mature for his age and he is the leader of the Pens and he will be doing most of the talking to the ref's and it might look like hes whining which he ain't. and he gets his fair share of hits and he surely doesn't cry about it he keeps getting the points. just like i said earlier people just seem to hate players that a really great at what they do best.

Gretzky is an untouchable subject. they didnt call him the great one for no reason. Sidney Crosby is the future of the industry. If hockey was purely about defense then half of the people wouldnt watch it. There are very select few who can do what those people do and with the grace that they can do it

amen, theyre going to be hit its part of hockey. The enforcers on the team are going to do their work to try to make it happen less. I have no problem with enforcers duking it out with someone who hits a star player in fact thats the whole role of the enforcer: protect the star. I think that fighting is part of hockey and should always be
