Painting them all the time will turn them yellow.
The best thing to do is to go a few days without and to use a clear base before you apply the color.

Lead will stain your nails....use a polish without lead. As a matter of fact don't use any cometics with lead. How do you find out if your cosmetics have lead? Well put some on your hand (lipstick, powder, shadows, any) and use a 14K Gold Ring and rub the cosmetic, if it turns black then it's lead. Lead leads to all kinds of problems, it doesn't just change the color of your nails. Use Lead-free cosmetics, you pay more but you won't get poisoned. "Whole Foods" sell some good ones. I tested a few 'Victoria's Secret' and they are good. Revlon failed, clinique failed. Test yourself and stop poisoning yourself. If you see it in TV, it's probably bad, they'll spend the money in marketing instead of making a better product, ex. Revlon. Good luck...

The stain from the polish will turn the nails yellow if you don't use a clear basecoat first. I don't think it will hurt anything.
