I'm from the UK,Democracy is the form of government in which the sovereign power is in the hands of the people and exercised by them .I see very little of this around these days it's more dictatorships hiding behind the word Democracy .So they can legally do as they please without repercussions.

Democracy is simply rule of the people. The majority makes the rules for everyone. The people do all the business of the country. Democracy is very inefficient and marginalizes minority opinions and views. The United States is an example of a Republic, where people elect a government to conduct the country's business. The United States is governed by a Constitution which protects a number of rights.

I am from the United States.

Democracy: mass rule. An ineffective form of government that ultimately culminates in mob rule and leads to politicians getting elected who promise the people the most benefits and money. I am an American, and frankly am getting tired of the way people think America is a democracy. It is not: it's a federal republic. There is a major difference. Read the American Constitution and the writings of Madison and Hamilton, and you will see that a Federal Government elects qualified men (and women) to represent the individual states and peoples of America. A Federal Republic is a much more effective and stable form of government than Democracy.

I learnt all this whilst watching this short film by Aaron Russo, something I was not aware of before. http://video.google.co.uk/videoplay?docid=3218585954111617501&q=aaron+russo+duration%3Along

A democracy is the worst kind of government there could possibly be. In a democracy 51 percent of the people control 49% of the people, if you are not part of the 51% you are not free.

A Constitutional Republic is the best form of government, in a Constitutional Republic, 99% of the people cannot take away the rights of 1% of the people. You have your rights because you were born with them, you have god given human rights and nobody can take them away from you, not the government, not the majority, no matter who they are.

"Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. In a Republic the lamb will have a gun to protect it’s self."

USA. Each citizen in a democracy has an equal say in the passage of laws and governing decisions. One man, one vote.
The USA is not a true democracy. We are a representative republic where we elect officials to represent certain percentages of the population. In theory the representatives of the different areas should be elected on their stances on the issues and therefore representing the opinions of the majority.
However the problem is that you aren't truly represented in every area as you would like to be because no two people have exactly the same moral and political points of view on everything.
It is the best government going in the world though. :)

Democracy is being free. Having a voice in the goverment without a fear of police attacking you, though some liberals and super right wingers might. Being able to say what you want about something or something, living a happy prosperous life, going to a school of your own chosing, being around people you want to be around, being able to clearly choose your actions,
I am a American and proud of it, you got a problem say it and i will let you know just how wrong you are.
Bush sucks, yes i said it
Bush is a bigot
Bush is a moron, i can say that all i want and nobody can do anything about it, because of freedom of speech Democracy in this country is also stable because of a thing called checks and balances giving veto power to the president and to congress also civilian control over the military and the pursuit of happiness which can give rise to industry because you are pursuing what you want and being able to do as you want not only makes you content but also can help you make changes for the better of my country,
America.

Democracy is an unachievable political ideal like all the others. The only reasons I think it's better than any other type of political ideology is because the government tends to be swayed more by the will of the people and tends to be held accountable for its mistakes. It's no where near perfect but I think its the best system there is. at least, our british version is

Democracy in the UK - is a thing of the past.. even when the people get a chance to vote ..the Government does what it wants anyway.... New Labour has Stalinised us... ....Ebeneeezer Brown is to be the new PM.... Why !? How !? is this possible in a " Democracy " .. all polls show 90% + of the UK population don't want him as PM..
Now we are to be Spied on by Satellites - to determine our Council Tax bands.... by checking up on us to see if we have made any improvements to our homes... This is Democracy UK Style..

Democracy is an idea by where the masses think they rule by way of an elected government, only to find out after, this is not so. example, In the UK 60+ percent of the people did not want us going to Iraq, what happened, our government completely ignored our wishes.
Democracy if practised rightly would be OK, but politicians seem to think they can bend the rules when it suits.
