Basically it's between Carolina, NY Rangers, NY Islanders, Toronto, and Montreal, with Boston and Florida catching up.

Don't just say your favorite team, actually explain why you think so please.

I'm a Western Conference guy and a HUGE Blues fan, so I feel I have a solid unbiased opinion here. The Rangers are in 7th by a point and Carolina is in 8th, both with 9 games remaining. Looking at a few things I can narrow down who's in and who's out....

Based on talent, Carolina is DEFINITELY in. Then add in the fact that they are defending champs and are hungry to get back there. The Leafs are talented, and the Rangers are strong, but their goaltending is shaky (same with Islanders right now). The Panthers are the hottest team right now, winning 7 out of their last 10.

Upcoming schedules favor the Canes, but are hurting the Leafs (Devils, Canes, Atlanta, Sabres twice). The Panthers and Boston don't really stand a chance with such few games left....

I predict the Hurricanes jumping up to ATLEAST 7th and the Rangers (hopefully a brutal past not an issue this year) edging out the Isles for 8th place.

when your team is in this situation like my team the Montreal Canadiens its really stressful. cause one night your team wins and the other 1 or 2 points ahead of you wins also so you cant get ahead then the next night a few of the others you mentioned lose a game then my Habs play the next night and have that chance to move up two points then they go and lose that's a piss off. NY Rangers are 3 pts behind 6th place TB and Carolina, Toronto and Montreal are tied in 8th and 4 pts behind TB, yes Montreal is actually 10th cause they have played one extra game then CAR and TOR. i just don't see any of these teams making a big splash in the playoffs like the Oilers did last year. there not built for a long playoff run. Montreal had a great first two games vs the Champs last year then Ward came in and took over the series. if we make it and Huet is back i hope there's a chance maybe getting past the first round yes its possible but there not yet ready for the long run in the hardest sport to win a championship the NHL.

i have faith in my Habs to make the playoffs this year.

GO HABS GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

I would have to say: NY Rangers in the 7th slot. They aren't playing great hockey, but they are playing good enough hockey to hold down the 7th place. 6-1-3 in the last 10 should be enough to hold that spot just fine. Now for the fun part, the 8th spot. I think it's safe to say the Islanders are out; the Bruins are out. Both teams are less the .500 in the past 10. You can't make it into the playoffs when your not playing .500 hockey. Now to Toronto and Montreal. These two teams play eachother for their final games of the year. It's going to be tight for both of them. The only safe thing to say is wait till the end of the night on the 7th. Florida is playing great hockey right now, but i think it's just too little, to late. They will make one hell of a run, but will fall about 3 points short of that final spot. If I had no choice but to make a choice right now, I would have to say the edge has to go to Montreal. I see them doing a much better job as a team then Toronto has done this season. I say I think Montreal will edge out everyone else for that last spot, but we won't know for sure until, like I said, the night of the 7th. As we all know, we can all second guess everything till we are blue in the face, and have it all go to hell in half a second with a upset or a blow out. Just guessing, that's all.

Even though i hate them...im gonna say Carolina. They are starting to come into some kind of form and they have experience by winning the stanley cup last year...which i must say was gay because they wouldnt have beaten buffalo if tallinder didnt get hurt...but montreals main goalie..huet has been injured and they havent played that well...rangers have too many injuries but they do have a solid goalie in lundqvist...islanders do have a chance with picking up smyth but i think theyll end up 9th and toronto just wont make it because i said so.

oh and then we can just get revenge and beat carolina in a sweep =]

Thee answer is undoubtedly the Montreal Canadiens. While the habs may have lacked poise throughout January and February, they showed in the early months that they have the potential to play with the big boys. Also, a tight playoff race in the east last year found the Habs finishing seventh after winning something like 9 straight. The Habs hate missing the playoffs and they hate disappoinying their fans. Le Tricolore will pull through. Guaranteed.

rangers have played well lately
6-1-3 in their last 10, and have been getting points on the standings just about every game lately
they are 1 point out of 6th and they are getting shanahan back
tommorow. they can get 6th even. i dnt know who will be in what spot, but i think it'll be them, tampa, and either carolina or toronto. carolina beat the devils badly, gotta get a boost from that, and if kaberle comes back, that can certainly improve the maple leafs
islanders havent been so good since they got smyth havent been so great. they also just lost 3 in a row

I think the Hurricanes will finish in the #8 spot. They have been playing quite well lately and will definitely receive one of the last spots (only to get annihilated by the Sabres). The Islanders, though currently in 9th, will move up to the #7 spot.

I believe that the season will end with the Rangers in 9th place, the Leafs in 10th, the Habs in 11th, the Panthers in 12th, the Bruins 13th, the Caps 14th, and the Flyers dead last.

Toronto because they just kicked the crap out of Cam Jansen of the New Jersey Devils, which motivated the team to reach the play offs.

Boston is my favorite team.

However they are an offensive team with Bochenski, sturm, and Kessel. Plus when it comes to the Shootout TIM THOMAS IS LIGHTS OUT!!! As well as Kessels moves
Don't count out the B's

NYI because of Ryan Smyth, that was a huge pick up. Also it looks of late that Depietro is actually looking like he is a great goaltender, these two things will launch them into the playoffs.
