Both do legal reseach and paperwork under the auspices of a licensed attorney.

A law clerk may also be an attorney in their own right, and just working under another more experienced attorney. Or the law clerk may be a paralegal or law student, not yet licensed.

A paralegal is a kind of advanced assistant, better than a secretary, who primarily prepares and files documents for attorneys. A lot of paralegals do not have college experience, even though there is an associates degree for this. Not a great salary, a good number of jobs available. A law clerk is usually a student who is thinking of going to law school or who is in law school and used for research purposes who usually gets paid zero.

There are better jobs available if you are going to college. I don't suggest a criminal justice major, unless you want to become a police officer. You will make more money as a pharmacist, but you need to want to get out of bed in the morning to go to your job. You should consider a versatile major such as business, engineering, etc. which may allow you to go into a number of fields until you figure out what it is you want to do. Law schools actually look for majors other than poly-sci and criminal justice.
