Do you think it is right that one year of forein language is required?
Even though in America we believe in Freedom of Speech but you have to know a forein language to graduate from some schools, and to enter some colleages. I think you should have a choice if you dont want to learn it then you dont have to other wise it is pushing a language on you that you dont want to learn and in a way forcing a new language down your throat. Even though in America we Believe in freedom of speech therefore you should not have to learn a forein language. Are universities and some schools violating the law then?

Learning a foreign language is very beneficial. I don't think it has anything to do with free speech. It is an academic requirement.

As we evolve into a global community it becomes increasingly necessary to understand other languages. In the next 20 years the Asian languages will become more important because the economical strength they are building will shift leadership from the US to China. Those under 30 may see the Chinese totally replace the US as a world superpower and We will become like Great Britain and most of Europe. A near third world country that is incapable of supporting itself.

I think I learned more from the English language when I took Spanish. My grammar improved and I got my best grade in English when I was taking Spanish. Also, I don't see why it would hurt to know another language. Knowledge is power.
