when someone in the know tells a reporter a fact that is classified but must remain anonymous because the fact is not cleared for publication, i think they both should be hung for treason, what is your opinion?
what is a secret, what is classified information, why should some people not have access to some information,
please answer and if you have a single gut, tell me what party you affiliate with

There are different levels of classification. You must be screened by the FBI (who does a thorough investigation)
and depending upon what job you do and for who you are cleared for a specific level. My husband works for the Dept of the Army and has a top secret clearance but there are higher levels than that and he really has nothing to do with security issues as such.
Who classifies it as such...the federal government does and specifically the branch you're working for. They have specific jobs and job levels that are marked with a specific security level. Use the Pentagon for example...you need a specific security level to move within the rings of the building. The closer you are to the center the higher your clearance must be.
Sometimes it seems like nonsense but other times it seems like an imperative. So, access can be denied. Sometimes, after a specific amount of time passes the document can be de-classified and able to be read by anyone. I don't know if I want to know all the secrets that might be necessary to run the government in these crazy times. But one thing I am sure of is that the media thinks they should be able to view every document there is and never be denied. That is absurdly ridiculous.

In the UK all 'classified information' comes under the Official Secrets Act, which dates back to 1911 and was hastily put together in an atmosphere of growing suspicion about German Imperial power and fears of an impending war.
The Act covers everything from the specifications of weapons systems and deployment plans for the Armed Forces to things as mundane and trivial as what colour the doors are painted on military bases and the recipe for sausage rolls in the canteens, etc.
Many people across all party divides feel it is out of date and should be reformed. Some people feel that information covered by the Act should be in the public domain. I personally feel that e.g. more information should be available on the UK's arms sales - what, for how much, to whom, etc. The government is very reticent on providing this information despite the fact that the arms trade is heavily subsidised by the taxapyer.
Breach of the Official Secrets Act need not necessarily be treason - it would have to be a serious breach and/or in time of war for that to be the case.

I'm no where near an expert, but I think there are different levels of classified information.
I am sick and tired of hearing about leaks in both parties and even within my own town and county politics and courts.
I've been a loyal registered Republican and have tried to vote in every single election for well over 30 years.

I agree. You see, this is what the People in the Know do to use loser American Citizens. You see, our oh so lovely leaders think we are studip, have no brain and could not possibly comprehend what is really happening in our own nation.
They are afraid to tell us the truth...because they honestly think we can not handle it? I would rather know the truth than have to say "But why...?"
Our government leaders are just evil.
