Parents are divorced.Mother leaves 7 yr. old w/the 13 yr. old boy of her party friend while they party on different occasions. The boys stay up til 1 or 2 am.The 7 yr. old tells his father about this times and obviously the father is concerned. The mother acts as if she is an officer of the court and changes the visitation to her convenience. All she does is cause the father grief. She is forever yelling about how he never calls his son or how he doesn't see him.Good Lord, she never answers her phone & when she does answer she just sighs and asks why he wants to talk to him 9more grief). It almost takes an act of God for him to speak to his son.The father had to move out of state for work but does everything possible to get his son up for visitation. The ex said absolutely no flying period!During spring break the father had to pick up son half way(total drive of 16 hours)& conveniently the ex allows son to fly home. The father hasn't called the law on his ex due to how his son might take it.

Petition the courts for a referral to private mediation. Private mediators cost a bit but will take the time to resolve the situation and consider the best interests of the child. The mediator will take the boy alone and speak with him privately for up to 2 hours. The boy is now 13 and his opinion and wishes carry a LOT of weight. The mediator will write a report and submit it to the judge. 95% of the time the judge will adopt the mediation report into a court order. Private mediation is the only way to go. I am a father of an 11-year-old girl and now have 50% custody of her after a private mediation. Her mother was blown away when she read the report and the judge adopted it. Good luck.

I don't know about legal, but when I was 7 years old I was the babysitter of six younger siblings. My mother walked out and left my father with seven children and survived just fine without her. Now you tell me who was more mature , the mother , or the kids she left behind. Children can do great things at an early age if they are raised properly.

I would say the babysitter should be 15 or older to babysit. But as long as the babysitter knows not to play with knives and other stuff like that, I'd say it's ok.

I don't know what to say about everything else you wrote, but it seems that there is no minimum age for babysitting. It is at the discretion of the parent.
