how do you shave your vagina?

I shave my vulva (the external genital area where all the hair is) with a razor going against the grain of the hairs. I don't shave much anymore because it can cause ingrown hairs to be a problem and then there is also the issue of razor burn which will show up as like little red bumps. One thing I make sure to do if I must shave there is not apply too much pressure or else I will cut myself.

My dr prefers that I trim my pubic hairs with a pair of scissors.

Some ladies have said that they use a Brazilian wax with good results.

Just do a little bit at a time to get used to it. Actually the first thing you should shave is around your anus. Guys and girls both should shave there since it prevents klingons, and then move up to shaving around your lips. You may just want to trim your upper pubes because that's where most of the razor bumps or razor burn happens but your skin does get used to it over time, just shave in the direction of the hair growth to start and don't try to get too close of a shave.

I trim my wife's pubic hair using a pair of hair clippers. I use the second smallest blade to trim her "runway" and the smallest for everywhere else.

No ingrown hairs, risk of cuts etc. The vibration of the clippers is quite good, too, apparently. ; )
