Unfortunately he never wants time alone and he is the one who has a hard time understanding and respecting the fact that I need time alone. My dream would be to take an entire weekend, drive to the mountains all by myself with nothing to do but read and walk. He would take it as a slap in the face, think I am mad at him or think that I am cheating on him.

Actually I am usually the one wanting 'alone time'. I am something of a quiet person and he is more of a group person and i find it draining to constantly interract with anyone, even someone I love.

And no he doesnt respect it... even though I am sure he thinks he does. It's as if he thinks the fact that I want to be alone means something is wrong between us and what I am actually saying is that I don't want to be with him.

I don't have one, but if I did I would definitely respect his time alone, if he respected mine. It is good to have space every now and again :)

Yes, you have to. It goes both ways, that's just respecting your lover.

Oddly enough, he's never wanted it, although I'd definately respect it if he wanted it.. I know he respects me when I want time alone

Very much so and would love for him to do the same for me but I never get it and it is getting old. I am about ready to run and not come home for a few days.
