I went on vacation and when I returned home my water pressure is nill. It seems normal, but when the washer machine is filling the kitchen and other faucets will barely trickle out until the washer kicks off. I know some lowered pressure is normal, but not like this. What could it be? I'm on a private well with a pressure tank system. The tank pre-set pressure shows it to be normal.

i think your problem isn't a pressure problem, it's volume problem. I don't think your dealing with a "leak" because you never stated that the pump runs continuously. the earlier answer about the well screen (filter) is right on track. Just make sure all your valves are open all the way. If they are, that's as far as i think you can take it on your own. If you adjust the switch without knowing what your doing, or adjust it higher when you don't have the volume could severely damage the pump. CALL A PRO!!!!! It will be a lot less money to do it up front then to mess it up and have to replace the pump.

Best of luck,

The water pressure switch may be set at around 40 psi, however, you need to take a look at that pressure gage when a couple faucets are on and see what the pressure reads at that point.

I would check and make sure you havent cranked down on the main valve and choked off the supply. If that isnt the case, Id suspect a well screen or a bad pump.

Losing pressure is losing water in this case. There has to be a water leak some where and if you check you will probably see that the pump is running most of the time if not all the time.

I thin the problem is not from the tank , but may be it's from the water pipes , it could have some sedimentary for being unused for sometimes , and needs some cleaning .

i suggest to have a well guy check it out you might not be getting enough water to supply all of the fixtures in the house
you also could have a leak before the house and it could be robbing your house of pressure
