Michael Jordan, the name is a household name, considering he was around in the days of television commercials and million dollar salaries, his name is much more well known... and frankly he achieved something much more difficult in a Way cooler sport. Just because Babe Ruth was the first, his records aren't still standing.

Really a "toss-up" but I have to less "20" and go with "3"....Ruth's number was 3 and Michael's 23.....Michael did not have the numbers and records that Ruth had...for that matter I think Wayne Gretsky would be a greater "icon" when it comes to records versus Jordan.....yes, he was very successful and an amazing sight to watch but he doesn't compare to what Ruth was during his time......Michael could only do one thing .....and that was "WIN"...how can I knock that but Ruth set records and won.....did you know that he used to have the "scoreless pitched innings" record in the World Series before Whitey Ford broke it.......RUTH......is the man!.....give him the nearly 4000 more times at bat that Hand Aaron had and he would have finished with over 1100 homeruns!!!!

Well it all depends on the sport. Both have accomplished so much, so therefore MJ would be the bigger icon for basketball, while Babe Ruth would be the bigger icon for baseball.
