Right now I live in Florida, and was wondering if the University of Florida or the University of Toledo would be better for pharmacy- if anybody knows much about these schools? I say Toledo because while Florida would be more cost efficient and closer obviously, I would eventually like to move out of state and Toledo was one of the schools that seemed to offer a good pharmacy program for a relatively lower price than other out of state schools. Has anyone been to these schools before?
Would transfering from prepharmacy in Florida to a pharmacy school out of state even be likely? Or would it be better if I completed the whole program in one state...?
Also, if there are any pharmacists out there, what do you think of your job?? -Thank you for answering in advance...

You can go out of state for pharmacy school. It's not that big a deal.

Rather, consider what states you might try and get into. What are the pass rates for people out of state versus in state. If there's a huge discrepancy, then maybe you should carefully choose the school in the state you're most likely to live in.

I know for CA, the pass rate for out of staters used to be only 10%. So, if you wanted to work here, you should go to school here. Apparently, it's nowhere near that bad in any other state. However, CA recently started using the NAPLEX exam so their pass rate from out of state people is likely to jump up, meaning it'll be less important to go to school here if you want to practice here.

Also, see if there's any reciprocity btw Ohio and Florida. Maybe you can still go to school in Florida and work in Ohio.

I don't know of any pharmacist who hates their job. It takes a certain personality to do it without going crazy, but if you've got that personality, pharmacy is a great job.

You would be making an egregious error to choose Toledo over the University of Florida's Pharmacy program. According to US News and World Report, UF is ranked 7th nationally, while Toledo is ranked somewhere after 31. Also, you would get in state tuition at UF, cutting your costs. As for job prospects, my wife just finished Pharmacy school in May. She received 8 job offers without even trying. There is a woeful shortage of Pharmacists. She loves what she does, but it was a long, hard road through school. If you are exceptionally bright, go for it! I won't tell you what she is making, but let's just say, you'll be buying dinner when you and your new college graduate friends go out. Good luck!

The University of Florida is a great school and since you are an in-state student you would be paying less to go. Toledo's program is fine - but the only reason to go there over the University of Florida is because you want to get out of state. Otherwise it makes no sense.

Good Luck!!!
