A friend has come from a broken home and was neglected by her single mum in a bad neighbourhood. 4 years ago she was attacked by her boyfriend who helped her as she was thrown out and had to stay in a bedsit in the innercity. She fell pregnant, had an abortion and took a break down. She has went from boyfriend to boyfriend and last month she fell pregnant and was happy ,joyful to keep it since now she has a good job and nice man. Last week she was taken into hospital, docs said the baby died in her and basically told her that was it,no sympathy at all. She cries all day and asks me why, when she cared for her child so much did it pass away. She cant get over her abortion when she was 15 and i think this new pregnancy was her way of fixing it, what can i do for her?

First you can be a good friend and stand by her, but mostly she needs to get a good therapist. She needs a professional to talk to, someone she can talk to and who can talk to her and show her that this is just something that happened and it isn't her fault and that she can try to have a baby later, when she is a little older and more in a way and position to have a child.

There is a great website that supports woman who have miscarried. My friend used it and it saved her life, as she felt the same. I can't remember the name off it but if you google support groups for woman following miscarrigae you should find it. I know also it has a forum so she can chat to other woman who have been through the same. In the mean time try to encourage her to talk about it, and the feelings that it brings up for her in relation to her past and the abortion. If she holds it all in then she will feel worse. Just give her time and let her know that you are there for her whenever she wants to talk. It may also be worth getting her a dr's appointment as it sounds that she is unresolved about a lot of things in her life. She may benefit from so counselling. Good luck.

Please explain to her that a miscarriage is natures way of expelling a fetus that is not healthy enough to survive. The doctor probably treated her this way because she is unmarried. Just because a doctor was smart enough to get through medical school it does not mean he has a good heart. She needs time to grieve, perhaps plant a tree in memory of her baby. Then she needs to marry her wonderful guy, and in a year try again.

That is heart breaking, especially because she had an abortion. maybe she could go to an orphanage and see if she could either adopt, or she could just see if mothering is right for her. There is a program where she can act like a sister to a young child that has yet to be adopted.

just be there for her and try and get her to seek medical help. Counselling may also help. All you can do is support her in her time of need.
