The memory is just one of the bottlenecks:
Cleaning and defragmenting your hard drive should improve speed some too. Check if memory runs on max allowed speed. Delete unrequired background tasks.
In the end the processor will be the final bottle neck, and upgrading that the only thing to do to to improve speed.

I would check in control panel then system then general to make sure your system is showing the proper memory you installed. It could be wrong memory or installed incorrectly. If that is correct I would scan your system for adware or spyware.
