It has to do with plate tectonics. I learned this from
an old science documentary.
Magma rises up from the earth's core(yeah, i'm
listening,(cough,cough) and the theory is that
there was once one continent floating on top
of the liquid magma(lava from volcano in
distance). The continent
broke up into smaller continents(if you don't stop,
I swear...). The continents, being made up of
different material(my geologist friend, who is
an atheist neandertal can explain better). Basically
there are varying theories how mountains are
formed but plate tectonics are generally thought
by most non-believers(I think I heard the reporter
girls in the distance coming from Moldor). This
program, made in 1980s, stated that California
would have another earthquake, it was only a
matter of when. The following year San Francisco
quake happened where the Golden Gate Bridge
collapsed.
