When you get contractions again, use them to your advantage.

With someone else home with you,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, if you're in true labor, and contracting, take a HOT SHOWER.

Aim the hot water at your chest and lower back, and it will intesify and speed up contractions.

Just relax. All babies do eventually come out. Just because your doc says a 38 week baby would do well doesn't mean YOUR baby is ready yet. YOUR baby knows when the best time is to be born.

Yes, sex helps induce labor for some women. IF their body is ready. If sex isn't an option for you, self stimulation COULD still help. See, semen ripens the cervix. But orgasm is what can cause contractions. So you could try that if you really want to. Also, nipple stimulation can bring on contractions, but you have to do it a long time, like 20 mins on and 20 mins off.

Walking and squatting to bring baby down to put more pressure on your cervix.

Evening primrose oil capsules used as vaginal suppositories to help ripen the cervix. (Doesn't cause contractions.)

Don't do the castor oil. It can make you miserable, running to the toilet, but not actually do anything to start labor. AND it can cause baby to pass his first stool in the womb, which can be very bad if he aspirates it.

Other than being uncomfortable, why would you want to self induce? Babies come when they are ready. There could be one last thing that the baby needs to finish developing that is not on the normal schedule. Maybe the cord is in the wrong position and delivery could be traumatic to you & the baby. My doctor wanted to induce my labor because my contractions were not regular. This meaning what the text books say is regular. I fought him and because of this I am alive today. While delivering they noted that the umbilical cord was wrapped three times around the shoulder and leg. Had I let them induce, my placenta would have ripped from my uterus causing excess bleeding that would not have been noticed until my blood pressure dropped. Your body has a reason for keeping the baby in.

Really, you should just wait and let the baby come when it is ready. I had my baby at 38 weeks, and she's been suffering from mild reflux ever since. In those last couple of weeks, the muscle that seals off the stomach from the esophagus reaches its full strength- just those 10 or 14 extra days make a big difference in a happier, healthier baby.

Girl, I went through the same thing! it was awful! I drank castor oil, ate spicey food, had sex all the time, and walked as much as i could!
I was still late (1 and a half weeks) to be exact. IT SUCKED
I had to be induced.
Castor oil and sex are the best ways to induce and they do work for some, but BEWARE u will be on the toliet for hours so it is worth it to let nature work its course. I know your pain I was due july 4th had him the 15th and had gained 90lbs. Good Luck and congrats!

I hate to say it, but you just need to hang in there! I was induced in the hospital and nothing happened...except after two days of it they gave me a c-section. It turned out that my baby just wasn't ready to be born yet. She had to breathe with a machine the first couple of weeks...I guess I had been wrong about the dates of the pregnancy. So your body knows best...don't try to rush it.

You know, as miserable and impatient as you are right now, taking care of the baby is 100 times harder than being pregnant...so why don't you try to relax, maybe go see a movie or go out to dinner with your partner (stuff you can't do with a baby), and just try to get some rest before you start your around-the-clock mommy duties.

just keep walking if sex is not an option. castor oil does NOTHING to help labor. It will ether give you the craps or make you puke from the taste. thats not something that you want at this time (talk about being misrible)

You dont want to push this baby out when s/he is not ready. Sex may not be a option but see if you can get your parter to give you a orgasm (or do it yourself). that will help with the contractions because all that is doing its contracting your uterus in itself.

(sex is much better though. the sperm helps soften the cervix NOT give contractions... the walking helps with that.)

Seriously, the only thing that actually works is sex BUT only if the sprem hits the cervix and the cervix is ripe and everything else need for labour is ready.

Like someone else said - this is your first lesson in patience. I understand what your going through. I'm 36 weeks and have had severe morning sickness the whole time. I'm ready too!!

your baby will come when it's ready. I walked all the time when I was pregnant and had my kids both on my due date. That doesn't always work for everyone but I believe you should let nature take it's course. I know it's hard because you want your little one here. Just be patient your waiting period is almost over. Good Luck!!

Yeah. Hot shower. Spicey foods. You say sex isn't an option-but what about masturbation? I think that's all of the things that made my contractions come regularly enough to get labor started.( Not being crass, just honest.)

You can try castor oil, eating spicy food, any kind of laxative (mainy a enema) , but if your body isn't ready to go into labor it won't. I drank about 75% of a bottle of castor oil (not all at once of course) when I was 37-38 weeks and not a thing happened, my son came out a week later after 2 days in the hospital of being induced.
