I mean If anyone including family, friends, influencial people has your social security number and only the number, what can they do with it?

Oh, where to begin? If someone were to get hold of someone--or your--SSN, then you would be in a heap of trouble. They could access your bank account, for one, and insurance for another. They could use your credit cards, and purchase things such as plane tickets, using that power. All in all, losing your SSN could be the worst thing--money-wise--possible.

get credit, insurance, collect welfare, drivers license. Many children today are coming of age and finding out their credit has been ruined by greedy parents who have used their SSN over the years for credit cards.

Get credit cards, get loans, get in to your bank accounts, and bankrupt you. Not only money wise but years before your credit is good again, or cost you thousands to repair your credit.
