I desperately need to get it open so I can burn a cd for a project! Thanks.

Oh and there isn't a little button I can press with a paperclip... someone already told me that :] Thanks

It is an HP so that's why it won't work I guess. Any other suggestions?

It should actually be a little hole not a button and some drives require almost the full legnth of a paperclip. Depending on your system you may have a faceplate that is blocking that hole (HP and Sony are notorious for this). If it's not opening try going into "my computer" and right click on the drive. click eject. If it doesn't work (or you can't see the drive is detected) you most likely need a new drive.

First unplug your computer, remove the cover & reseat the two cables attached to the CD-ROM - (BTW you can't burn to a CD-ROM, but I'm guessing that's a mistype) - after that if it still doesn't work after booting(FOR XP only), try using windows device manager - finally if none of that works go into system setup during BIOS load (most machines - press F2 during initial startup) - look for drives 2-whatever and insure that the BIOS can see the CD-ROM - if it says unknown drive - turn it to off, save settings, reboot, go back into BIOS change to auto - save settings (esc - & then save) and then reboot again & hopefully it will detect the drive. If not - I'm out of solutions....

Yes. There is a small 'Hole' that you can 'Insert ' a straightened 'Paper Clip' to release the Tray.
