I have an emachines that is about to die. I put a power supply in it & have been told the motherboard could go at any time. I need another computer. I dont have cash. I've applied for credit through Dell, but was denied. I was offered credit through a company that only seems to have HP's, Acer's (which I've rarely heard of) & Lenovo's (which I've never heard of). Out of these, which would be the best? I dont think I'll be able to get credit anywhere else, if my computer dies on me. Any honest input is appreciated. Thanx!

There is always the possibility of getting a "lemon" in the best of them. You want to take into consideration: warranty and support. In my opinion these are as important as the price.

I have no knowledge of ACER or Lenovo, but I have had very good support from HP. Recently I received a reply from a support person within a few hours and she e-mailed me to see if I had been successful -- which I was.

You could try HP's website and look for "refurbished." You can save some money that way and they usually come with some kind of warranty.

Lenovo is a division of IBM and is your best bet. Second is HP/Compaq, followed by Acer. Stay away from Acer and Dell Laptops.

Lenovo is more expensive than the others with the greatest reliability. HP is average reliability, average price. eMachines is low reliability, low price. Compaq is a cheaper HP.

Steer well away from Acer. I've owned an Acer laptop and an Acer desktop, both were rubbish and I had nothing but problems.
