When each half of the sentence could stand alone as a separate sentence, you can use a semicolon.

She broke up with Dave after thnking about it a lot; she knew their relationship wasn't going to get any better.

You've really been working on your serve and your stamina; your tennis has gotten a lot better lately.

It can be really hard to break a habit; some people try to quit smolking many times before they succeed.

You can also use a semicolon when you want to connect two complete sentences without using; and, but, or, or any other conjuction word.

HERE'S WHAT A SEMICOLON LOOKS LIKE, :, THEY ARE USED IF U R GONNA LIST THINGS. HERE'S AN EXAMPLE:

U WRITE "MY FAVORITE THINGS", THEN U WOULD PUT A SEMICOLON AND THEN LIST WHAT EVER.

THIS IS HOW IT GOES:

TOPIC: BLAHBLAHBLAH (NOTICE THE ' : ')

1. BLAH
2.BLAH
3. BLAH

HOPE THIS WORKS OUT!
