Why are people saying this word all of a sudden?
I saw it for the first time when I read an article on Emma Watson being stalked in school by a weird fan and he was Zealous. Now I keep seeing people using the word all the time. It's annoying me.

BTW i do know what it means!

It means enthusiastic pretty much! I actually think I am becoming Zelous over the word Zealous!

sometimes you see a word for the first time and then it jumps out at you every time you see it so it seems like it's being used more. That happens to me all the time. Mind you I think journalists go through fads too with words they like. Like decimated never used to get used. That one really bugs me.

the word Zealous got a big boost after the 2004 Republican Convention when Zell Miller gave his over-the-top vein-bursting speech. Republicans everwhere crowed about the Zell-less Democrats. The act that 'zealous' sounds like Zell-less gave the word 'zealous' a whole new life.

Maybe zealous is more posher than it's younger sisters - 'energy' or 'enthusiasm', hence it's usage.

It's a fad or a trend. It's just that it sounds catchy cause it's rarelu used. It's the same reason some "styles" catch on at different times.

Nothign more to it.

They're not saying it all of a sudden, you've just noticed it and now it stands out. Happens all the time with me.
