i think it is because we are at our most vulnerable... probably gets back to prehistoric times and we're afraid someone will take advantage of our "weakened" state. (crying is not a sign of weakness, btw!)
also we spend so much time putting up a "brave face" to the outside world - showing someone, anyone, how we really feel is scary because you don't know whether they'll by sympathetic or just laugh and walk away.

Because they are seeing me at one my weakest states and I don't like to show weakness. I mean, I'm not a cold hard b****, but I just don't want anyone to see me crying and feel sorry for me and stuff.

Because it shows a weakness and vulnerability that I don't want people to know I have. I have this great big huge wall built up around me and my emotions and handle everything with great strength and courage. It's very hard to let that down and let someone else see it.

Good question. Hm...i suppose it is because my eyes get bloodshot and my face turns red. Well, that's only if i start breathing to heavily or not enough. And i really don't like the attention of people crowding around me and asking what's wrong.

Probably because of cultural conditioning.
Tears are a natural part of the body's health. We ought not to have misgivings about shedding them in public -- BUT MOST OF US DO.

Because they ask what's wrong, and then I feel like I have to go into the whole story, and I just don't want to.
